We have a variety of programs at all levels for International Folk Dance.  Discover heritage and dance roots! International folk dances teach ethnic dances from around the world including Eastern Europe, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Armenia, Scandinavia, Brittany, and a little English Country. We encourage dancers to try out most dances by following the leader. The dance instructors rotate every few weeks with a wide variety of talented and experienced teachers.

International Folk Dance
Time: Fridays 7:30-9:00pm in the large dance hall
Cost:
$8 general / $6 members/ $5 students/ free to ages 13 & under (must be supervised by an adult)

Lessons feature rotating instructors teaching intermediate/advanced dances.

International Request Dance
Time: Fridays 9:00-11:30pm in the large dance hall

Cost: $8 general / $6 members/ $5 students/ free to ages 13 & under (must be supervised by an adult) FREE to those who attend International lessons at 7:30

Dancers can choose dances taught both recently, or any time since the beginning of Tapestry, since they are alphabetically listed in a notebook available to dancers - so what gets requested is a mix of old and new. There are dances from every continent, and the most-requested dances are from eastern European countries like Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Greece. We also do Israeli dances, and couple dances from (western) Europe and the Americas - but you don't need to bring a partner.

Advanced International Folk Dance
Time: Every second Tuesday of the month from 7:30-10:30pm
Cost: $8 general / $6 Tapestry members / $5 students

Mark your calendars for a weekend of workshops with renowned dance teacher Lee Otterholt!

Friday, October 25- Sunday October 27, 2013

Friday, Saturday and Sunday Workshops and Saturday Evening Dance Party

About the Teacher:

Lee Otterholt, born in the US of Norwegian-American parents, lived and worked for many years in Norway as a professional dancer, dance teacher and choreographer. Before he moved to Southern Califonia in 2003, Lee was professor of folkloristic dance at the Norwegian National College of Oslo and founder/leader of the Center for Inter-national Folk Dance in Oslo. He was also responsible for the establishment of 4 active folk dance clubs and 3 performing groups in Norway. In addition to choreographing folk dance for amateur and professional ensembles in Europe, Lee has choreographed other forms of dance for the theater and television.

For the last 20 years, Lee has been active on the international recreational scene, folk dance in Europe, the US and East Asia. He has material from a wide range of sources and is always finding or developing new dances for his teaching repertoire. Dances that he has presented in the US include Topansko Oro, Brancno Oro, Krivatvorena, Paraliakos, Kotchari, Ya Da Kalinushku Lomala and Cobankat. Lee has an easy-going style and presents the steps and essence of the dance clearly and with great fun.

Please help us welcome Lee on his return to Tapestry and the Twin Cities!
